Mariza is a glimpse of contemporary fado, Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. She is one of the greatest contemporary singers, considered a member of the New Fado movement, with a voice reminiscent of traditional divas of this musical form such as Amália Rodrigues. Awarded Best European Artist in World Music by BBC Radio 3, Mariza has also been chosen to share the stage with Sting in the Olympic Games of Athens 2004 singing "A Thousand Years," as a duet.
